"Ocean Breeze"
"Ocean Breeze" is an abstract mixed-media piece by Art by Bartuch (Est. 2023). This small-scale work uses a cool, aquatic palette to evoke the rhythmic movement and sensory experience of the sea.
Visual Composition
The artwork is structured with a distinct horizontal division, reminiscent of a coastal horizon line:
The Upper Register: A pale, off-white space that suggests a bright sky. A soft, hazy wash of light blue sits just above the midline, mimicking a distant mist or a light sea spray.
The Lower Register: A deep, saturated field of cerulean and navy blue. The paint is applied with visible vertical brushstrokes and scraping techniques, creating a textured, "rain-like" effect that suggests depth and falling water.
The Foreground: Three sharp, dark teal diagonal lines cut across the left side of the composition. These gestural marks add a sense of dynamic movement—perhaps representing masts, pier pilings, or the sharp slant of wind across the water.
Materials and Texture
The piece is executed on heavyweight, cold-press watercolor paper, which provides a rich, dimpled texture visible in both the painted and unpainted areas.
Mixed Media: I have used a combination of acrylics or heavy-body inks, utilizing a "dry brush" technique to let the paper’s grain peek through the blue pigment.
Authentication: The work features a physical embossed seal in the bottom right corner of the painted surface, as well as a black ink stamp and a secondary debossed seal on the reverse side, marking it as a "Bartuch Original."
Mood and Atmosphere
True to its title, the piece feels cool, refreshing, and energetic. The contrast between the stark white paper and the intense blues creates a crispness that mimics the sharp air of a coastal morning. The verticality of the strokes provides a sense of structure, while the diagonal lines introduce a feeling of spontaneity and natural force.
Dimensions Note: The artwork is displayed on a miniature wooden easel, highlighting its status as a small-format, collectible "mini" original.
